Day 27

Well I can't believe I've only spent 27 days working on the plot. It seems ages ago (January) that I first got the plot and started digging. It was a complete mess that first day and after getting everything cut back it looked so much better. Then over the months, April in particular, all the weeds grew back. I'm still trying to keep on top of then whilst tending to the veg I already have in and digging over the rest.

My knees are feeling a lot better now I have rested them a bit. I may start digging over the last part of the plot, I also need to build a base for a shed and then install one.

I spent a good few hours down there today. Cut and laid some of the carpet along the paths. I must remember to take a new blade with me, this one is now totally blunt. Whilst I was pulling up some of the weeds that have grown around the edges of the previously laid carpet I saw a Slow Worm. Oh dear, I couldn't leave it there, I was surprised I hadn't already squashed it. I picked it up and put it in the compost heap, should be warm and safe there. I forgot to take a photo of it, sorry.

Here are the photos for today.

Things at home are not going to bad, the dog has finally come into season, so we may well get puppies this year. I'm on 2 weeks holiday from work and my replacement Camellia came (remember the dead one?).

Day 26

Oh dear. It's not good news. All this rain and no sun hasn't made the plants grow, weeds have loved it though.  The pigeons or something have had all my peas and cabbages, and something had broken one of my Zucchini. I am very disheartened. On the other hand everything in my garden at home is growing very well.

Raining again

I popped down to the plot today to put a net over my peas. The pigeons have been having a feast. However there is one pea pod, they haven't touched that yet. I have one carrot that has come up from the original sowings months back but none from the new lot. There are loads of weeds coming up.

It rained so I didn't really do much. The potatoes are growing though and there are a few flowers on them so in some way it's lucky it's raining, it means I don't have to worry about watering them at the moment. Hopefully we will have a bit of good weather soon so I can get back down there when I'm not working.

Day 24

Sorry for posting this late, the date was really the 5th June, I have been busy at work and haven't had the time. I went down the plot, the weather wasn't very good and it did rain but I'm glad for that as it meant I didn't need to water. I am on strict restrictions from the doc as to what I am allowed to do. Rest. No digging, no standing up at work, no kneeling or bending my knees, no heavy lifting and no long walking. Well that all stops me doing much down the plot, so I had a bonfire. I had to cut down some overhanging branches so that I can get my car all the way down to the plot, so these needed to go on a bonfire. I love bonfires. Must have been an arsonist in a former life, or maybe this one. There were a few people down there and I did take time out to go and chat to most of them.

I made time to finish off the bed I mave been digging over and put some straw around my potatoes. I also got some horse manure and put it in the new bed, will dig this in when my knees feel a bit better. Apparently I have damaged my ligaments (stretched rather than torn doc thinks), have fluid on my left and movement in my right. Been given tablets to help reduce inflamation and have to go back in a month to see if it has helped or if I need to go to hospital. Dad had this when I was little, they drained the fluid with a hyperdermic needle and injected hydrocortisone, he said it was very painfull, now he has had a knee replacement so it is worrying me a little that this is what is going to happen eventually to me.

I took photos so you can see how much has been done from back when I got my plot to now. It has taken ages to figure out how to use this piccassa thing, Sue has used it on her site and I was impressed with the slideshow function so have tried it here otherwise there would be a very long post with loads of photos going down the page. So fingers crossed this works.

It isn't easy. Still not sure I have done it correctly and can't figure out how to dissable the autoplay.  Also had to do all this in HTML, maybe when I am forced to go to the new look dashboard it might be easier, doesn't mean I have to like it though.
